“I Like to Be Here”

I got an email from a writer friend on Tuesday night saying that a play that he is a part of was casting an immediate replacement for a role and would I like to audition the following day?  Absolutely!  I’ve been cast as Eddie, a gruff NYPD beat cop in “I Like to Be Here“ opening 9/6 at The New Ohio as part of the Theater: Village festival.  Come check it out – it’s a fun play and a really cool collaboration of writers.

Fumes is being submitted!

We did it!  “Fumes,” the short film we shot in February 2013, is complete!  I submitted it to the Sundance Film Festival yesterday.  There will be a few tweaks to the credit graphics before it’s released to everyone who contributed to our IndieGoGo campaign, but stayed tuned because it’s coming shortly.  The poster is also currently in the design stages with my talented sister and graphic design artist, Shelby Lee Jones.

I spent one beautiful day out on Pirate’s Cove in Port Jefferson, NY as the Director of Photography for my first music video for Big Dipper.  I was hired by TDC Productions to come on-board and work with the crew and got to work with my friend, Nick Rubino-Bradway and play with his Movi for the day.  It was a great day, fun people, and I’m looking forward to seeing the final video.  I only got a little sunburned unlike some of my colleagues.

“Short Life of Trouble”

I’m in a new play!  Short Life of Trouble is a new play with songs featuring original text, text by William Shakespeare and William Faulkner, and the regional music of the South performed live by the ensemble. Inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Southern Gothic literature, and bluegrass and gospel music, it explores the human understanding of mortality, the influence of religious faith, and the tangled complexities of family bonds through the lens of the 1930’s American South. With a high theatricality, haunting melodies, and an earthy, visceral approach to language, the play floats freely through time and every characters’ innermost thoughts.

“Reunion”

I was the Director of Photography of “Reunion”, a production of Alpha and Omega Films, over May 2nd and 3rd in Tarrytown, NY.  This is the first time I’ve been hired just to DP, which was an exciting opportunity.  I’m looking forward to working with them again.

Operation Exodus

I’m honored to have created a promo video for an organization called Operation Exodus.  Operation Exodus strives to inspire students in poor neighborhoods of New York City to achieve goals that no one expects them to reach, through tutoring and mentoring programs we offer in the Washington Heights and Inwood neighborhoods. Exodus has also become a home away from home for many of their students, rather than just a place to study and learn.

I directed and edited the following video for their fundraising campaign:

Spark & Echo Band videos

I’ve been busy working on videos for Spark & Echo Band.  We started last fall and just finished shooting the last one.  There have been delays in our work due to the birth of their son and my busy days with my own daughter.  I’m excited for their release later this year.

New York Madness Acting Company

1005301_10151764651986672_808645455_nIt has been a distinct pleasure to work repeatedly with New York Madness for the past ~3 years. New York Madness is a raw and unpredictable show of short plays by an ensemble of emerging playwrights, created by my friends Judith Leora and Cecilia Copeland.  It’s a group of playwrights who meet once every 1-3 months with a Guest/Host Playwright. This guest picks a theme for that month’s Madness a week before the event. The playwrights then have one week to write a 7-8 min short play on that theme which is given to a director and actors usually a day or two before the event. Then all the plays are read for an audience at that month’s Madness. It’s always an evening full of surprises.

Due to my repeated presence over the past few years I have been asked to join the NYMadness Acting Company. This is something new for the upcoming 4th season.  Guest Playwrights this season include Erik Ehn, Caridad Svich, Mia Chung, August Shulenberg, Jenny Lyn Bader, and David Bar Katz!

Come out this coming season and see what the noise is all about. The first Madness of the season, featuring Erik Ehn, will be held on September 15th at the T. Schreiber Theater, 151 W 26th St. @ 8:00 pm. Hope to see you there.

Trailer Cash

A film festival for films that are still in production.  It was the brain child of Lucas Van Engen, a New York based actor who was looking for a way to get to know more up and coming indie filmmakers. But it turned into some more. . . Much more. So in it’s second year, I am helping Lucas expand and grow the event.

Trailer Cash is an annual party for filmmakers with a chance to win a cash prize toward any video-based project in development that needs funding. We screen teasers, or “trailers,” of films and new media in all stages of production and award a donation to the winner to help complete the project.

Trailer Cash 2013 is set to kick off at McHale’s Bar and Grill (251 W. 51st Street New York, NY) 7-10 pm on Monday, September 23rd, 2013.

Last year the winning project brought home $1000 cash prize to add to their budget. This year there will be 3 ways for those projects invited to the party to win, including: A juried prize, an audience award, and all the proceeds from the onsite raffle given to the project of the ticket purchasers choice, so it’s highly unlikely for a project in the festival to walk away empty handed.

Check out the site and if you have a video project in production this fall think about submitting to us to help raise some operational funds for you.
